Jerry Edward Chipuk, Ph.D. is a Professor of Oncological Sciences and Dermatology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York City; he also serves as an Associate Director of the NCI-Designated Tisch Cancer Institute. The Chipuk Laboratory studies the impact of the mitochondrial network in fundamental cell biology, and he often positions these studies in the context of cancer mechanisms with a focus on BRAF melanoma. Intersections between mitochondrial composition, shape, and number with cellular transformation, chemotherapeutic success, and prognosis using multi-omics approaches coupled with advanced imaging and mitochondrial bioenergetics studies motivate the laboratory’s efforts.
